Catch up! Nov. 28th and Dec. 5th-7th

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve posted!! Here’s my catch up post for the past 2 weeks πŸ™‚

So, the week of Wednesday, November 28th was our final week of class, and so we didn’t have a sponsor school visit. It was theΒ busiest andΒ most stressful week of my life. Fortunately it’s over, and I’m proud to say I made it through alive πŸ™‚ I was sick and exhausted, but alive πŸ˜‰

The following week, last week, was fantastic!! I spent 3 full days at my sponsor school and had so much fun with the students.

On Wednesday the 5th, I spent the morning with a wonderful group of kindies, and what an amazing experience that was πŸ™‚ (It’s worth noting that I went into this program fully wanting to be a kindergarten teacher, and this was my first opportunity to be with this age group!) Mrs. W (who also, by the way, was my 5th and 6th grade teacher!) was incredibly welcoming and let me get right in there with the kiddos. We started the morning with some brief story time, in which I ended up surrounded by eager ears waiting to listen to the stories, and many were even climbing onto my lap! After being in a 4/5 combined for so long, this was completely new to me, but only the beginning of the physical contact! During our time on the carpet, I had groups of 2 or 3 girls at my feet the entire time, touching my boots and holding onto the bars of the stool I was sitting on. It was incredible to feels o adored! We then moved to the tables where we learned how to make snowflakes! We reviewed how to properly hold the scissors – did you know your pointer finger ‘does not come to the party?’ You shouldn’t be using your pointer finger in the loops of the scissors! Once the kids were busy cutting, Mrs. W informed me that, while they’re cutting, it’s important that we as teachers are mindful of how they’re sitting in their chair! Who knew?! We had to adjust their chairs so that their elbows were on the tables and they were sitting upright. The things you learn in kindergarten πŸ™‚

In the afternoon, I was back in Ms. C’s room and we went about our day as usual. Thursday was relatively uneventful, except that I got to experience a prep while the kids were in gym. Basically time for teachers to get things done!Β

On Friday I actually taught my first lesson!! In the afternoon, Ms. C has set aside an entire block for me to do an art lesson with the 4/5’s and I chose to do a chalk pastel art project. I first read them the book “What Snowmen do at Night” and then asked them to be creative and come up with something fun that they believe snowmen do at night. The pictures turned out fabulously, you can see a picture of the bulletin board in my next post! I think my favourite part of the entire lesson was when I received a note from one of the students after we had moved on to something else. She wrote, “Miss Parfitt, you’re an awesome teacher” and it totally made my day πŸ™‚

We also practised our Christmas concert song, Jingle Bell Rock, with another class who is singing Jingle Bells, in french! They sing a verse, then us, then them and it ends with our verse. I can’t wait to watch them next week πŸ™‚

Chat soon,

~Miss Parfitt
